Sick 'Em by Erica Anderson Minneapolis, MN

Despite the awful music that reigned on mainstream radio, the '90s ruled. I discovered a whole 'nother side to music. The underground counter culture. I discovered punk music. I thrived on music that was as angry as heavy metal but didn't cater to the meatheads that metal attracted at their concerts. Punk was for the disenchanted and alienated like me. One of my favorite underground punk bands was 7 Year B***h. Unfortunately they also fell victim to tragic circumstances when their guitarist Stefanie Sargent overdosed on heroin (and she wouldn't be the last musician in that era to OD on the powerful narcotic). "Sick 'Em" is by far my favorite album of theirs (out of the two that I owned by them). The music was angry, fast, and ferocious. Selene Vigil had a set of pipes that could rival most men. She was far more edgier than Courtney Love could ever be. Valerie Agnew is another great drummer whose talents could rival a lot of male drummers. With bassist Elizabeth Davis, Valerie and Elizabeth gave 7 Year B***h the backbone in the music with their intense rhythmic beats. All the songs on the album is great It is really difficult for me to pick a favorite track out of them although I really do like "Tired of Nothing" which became my theme song over the years, especially when I was in high school. And for keeping me sane through out those awful years, I thank Selene, Valerie, the late Stefanie, and Elizabeth for their wonderful music.
