Throughout their debut CD, In Moderation, 8STOPS7 range from riff-heavy, adrenaline-fueled tracks like "Wider" and "My Would-Be Savior" to the mellow ballads "Good Enough" and "Forget." Other tracks cover all areas in between. The lyrics on In Moderation seem honest and well versed. For example, in "Good Enough," lead singer Evan Sula-Goff wrestles with his own infidelity: "I want to be faithful but as far as I can tell, I'm not doing so well." Then, in the same song he proceeds to defend himself: "Can I be read my rights before you put me on trial? . . . Your best friend says that I'm leading you astray, but we all like to talk without much to say." Other tracks cover issues that are obviously much more cynical, bearing lyrics such as the following, taken from "Better": "So you want to spit on my face and start to call me names, expecting me to break down, give in, let you take the win. But I'm not ready yet to be convinced." Sula-Goff's voice contributes much to this four-piece rock outfit, at times producing quiet, harmonious tones to complement the lyrics. However, his voice can often quiver, making these tones sound slightly awkward. At the other end of the vocal spectrum, he unleashes outraged, yet well-focused whispers, groans, and screams, which run parallel to the overall intensity of each track. In Moderation has much to offer instrumentally, as well. On the higher-octane tracks, guitarist Seth Watson produces some rapid, hard-hitting riffs, while bandmates Alex Viveros and Adam Powell provide running basslines and thrashing percussion, respectively. On the slower tracks, all band members come together to form a mellow musical landscape. The radio-friendly hidden song at the end of the CD, "Empty," even offers some piano accompaniment. 8STOPS7 is a band who's collective energy and talent continually fuel the emotionally charged music they create.
