Emotive was something I wasnt looking forward to as APC is not really one of my favourite bands. I have given it a few listens but I never really liked their second album.Anyhow, Emotive stands out among and emerges as the Top5 albums I heard in 2004. I think APC make all these songs from the last century sound like their own.
I hadnt heard the original version of "Whats going on". I was completely taken aback by APC's cover."Imagine" was the first song I heard from this album.It's theirs."Passive" is another favourite of mine."Counting Bodies Like Sheep To" is like its sung in a cage by a man who wishes to break out before they exhaust.I must say its one hell of an adrenaline inducing song. I think the bass and the drums throughout the record stand out.Some would say Maynard failed this album. I would say he gained more respect.There's not one song on the album that I would consider skipping nowadays."Fiddle And The Drum" has come a long way and has finally joined my favourite songs on this album.It has no music but just plain vocals. Very Very Solid! When I first heard the record I was only wondering why Emotive wasnt really appreciated. I think its a great compilation of solid songs that are made to look stronger by the vocals of the great Maynard."Fredom Of Choice" is an awesome song with well crafted music."people are people" can be occasionally skipped. "When The Levee Breaks" OH! If only I had better comprehension abilities."Let's Have A War" yaeh it can be skipped.
The album has this dark yet sombre feel to it. I think its truly gonna be treasured amongst my music collection. I have been listening to it for 2 months now and I just sit back and grin each time Emotive is playing in my car and at the number of times I'm asked "Who is this?"
