I have to admit when I first heard of "A Perfect Circle", I thought, oh boy, another failed side project for an amazing singer (Maynard James Keenan). After continual prodding from a friend, I eventually picked up "Mer de Noms", and I, to this day, still listen to it all the time! Tool fans beware, if you are looking for a Maynard spin-off you might be disappointed, his voice sounds very different here! From beginning to end, this is one of the most complete albums I've ever heard, I mean, I listen to metal all the time, and this album is nothing like anything I've ever heard before, it's very soulful stuff. Mer de Noms will suck you with every note and you'll find yourself singing along to most of the songs (You think I'm kidding!). "Judith" kind of sounds like a Tool song, (hence my original thoughts about a side project), but it's the only one, this album has a very diverse mix of genres from classical to pop, from rock to metal (sort and choose as you will). My favorite song on the album is "Three Libras" hands down. "Cause I'm through with the obvious, to see what occurred behind me, eyes of a fallen angel, eyes of a tragedy...". Come on now, you know you've heard it, it's an amazing song, and is worth the price of the CD alone. If you have an open mind, pick this up, you will not be disappointed.
