Very Surprised

After hearing 'The Remedy' and 'Ruin Your Life' I was attracted, yet, not enough to buy the album. Then, I struck a deal with a friend of mine, a pound of coffee for the Abandoned Pools cd and how very pleased I was.I love this band because they allow so many different styles and melodies to exist in their music. Also, the vocalist is very unique and sounds great regardless of tempo. You have 'Blood' 'Monster' and 'Mercy Kiss' where the chorus is rockin' enough to be remniscient of The Smashing Pumpkin's 'Siamese Dream' then between the chorus there is flavourfull electronic pop without any guitar at all. Then, L.V.B.D. and Seed are dark and hard and the vocalist even edges toward sounding like Billy Corgan. However, many mellow and interesting tracks are scattered throughout and are pleasing aural candy. ('Start Over' 'Suburban Muse' Sunny Day' 'Ruin Your Life' 'Never') overall, and incredible debut album, some tracks sound repetitive ('L.V.B.D.' 'Seed' and 'Fluorescein') and can become frusterating but everything else is worthy of praise and repeated listens....
