A Brilliant Farewell... by "gummoboy1" North America
Reviewed on March 31st, 2001
The New Orleans underground metal kings Acid Bath return with their second and final release, which doesn't disappoint. Acid Bath are a truly unique band combining death metal with more subdued bluesy type rhythms. The twin axe attack is brilliantly complimented by the pounding basslines and frenzied drumming and the beautiful voice of Dax Riggs. Dax is one of the best singers in the genre, with his unique ability to switch between throat tearing screeches, beautiful melodies and sorrowful crooning. The best songs on this album are the opening track "Paegan love song" which is one of my favourite acid bath songs, "Locust Spawning", and two more subdued tracks in "New death sensation" and "Graveflower" which both showcase acid bath's musical and lyrical diversity. As for Acidbathed, Acid Bath are most definately not Australian, since you live in their home country i thought you would know that, however for all you American metal fans you should try get a hold of two very good Australian metal bands. One is Segression who have just finished touring the states and are going to be supporting Pantera on their upcoming Australian tour (April '2001'). Another top notch Aussie band is Alchemist who have four full length albums under their belts and though they have gone largely unnoticed outside Australia (except to some Europeans)they are an incredibly heavy, skillful and original death metal band, who i am sure will eventually get the credit they deserve. For those who have not had the privilage to hear Acid Bath i strongly recommend this CD as well as their debut "when the kite string pops", while the remaining members are still recording with two very different bands: Agents of Oblivion and Goatwhore.
