Through the tortured poetry of Daxx Riggs, one can only wonder what is going through this man's head when he wrote the lyrics for Acid Bath's first album: When the kite string pops. "It reminds me of you, the sickness of the sun, bleeding into the blue", taken from the first track offer only a tiny hole for one to gaze into and realize that for some, there is no sunrise. Acid Bath are a dark band, but it would be most unfare to call them death metal. They are heavy heavy yet heavy metal is not the right word when trying to describe the music. Acid Bath's music is simply put: raw human emotion. This Louisiana based quintet conceived an album so dark, light cannot penetrate it.Daxx Riggs, the singer, has an incredible range. He goes from straigh ahead death metal vocals on Dr. Seuss is dead, to soft spoken sadness on Scream of the butterfly. When listening to the songs on this album you really can't come down on which songs are good and which are bad. The heavier songs will appeal to you when you are in a certain type of mood or stain of mind, while the softer, yet just as dark ones, will appeal to you at other times. This type of rae energy can be heard throughout the recording, you know these guys are for real. The cover art is done by J.W Gacy, which is quite creepy ... The raw production only adds to the albums overall theme of darkness in today's world. This album tells the stories of people who have fallen so low, hope and faith are simply words without meaning. If you think you've been down, listen to the twisted tales of When the kite string pops, hopefully it will make you feel better about your own life and situation.
