this might be one of the most underrated and brilliant cd's ever written. it is a incredibly cohesive and atmospheric. few other bands have ever managed to put up such a dense, dark and disturbing atmosphere. every song is unique in it's way still does every song radiate pain, loss, anger and violence. violence most of all. still the lyrics are masterfully written and they never drift of in death-metal-cannibal-corpse-splatter stupidity. dax riggs is a genious in both ways, he signs/screams very well, also he writes brilliant, partly poetic partly just angered, lyrics. the complete band is very talented, the two guitarists play very diverse from grindcore attacks ("jezebel") to very groove-laden riffs ("tranquilized"). the bassist audie pitre (R.I.P.) is also highly talented so is the drummer. the opener "the blue" is a relatively mellow song for an opener, but it is one hell of a song anyway. grinding away at mid-tempo with dax screaming stuff like "fragments of a sunbeam glaring on this kitchen knife" it is poeticly violent. other standout tracks are "cheap vodka", a fast paced, furious 2 minute kick in the face, "jezebel", which starts out with a brutal grindcore-massacre, also a lyrically violent and very twisted song ("if i took the cigarette and put it out on you...would you love me?" or "she screams bloody murder as they chop off her fingers so this is how it feels to die but it's okay... everything's okay"), "screams of the butterfly", a very mellow acoustic track with beautiful poetic, yet violent lyrics and "what color is death", a disturbing mosh-pit type of metal song. altogether every song is worth mentioning because nothing sounds same on this album. this album should be owned by every metal fan. a must-have.
