A novelty album for sure, like 2 Live Crew's works. by "amazondotcomhater" Brunswick, Georgia USA
Reviewed on September 20th, 2001
Greetings all,Seems some people out there in the listening public are dubbing this album's style "old school," and considers the early 90s old school. In the world of rap, true old school comes from the late 70s and early 80s. Those artists that came out in the mid-to-late 80s was considered new school. Then came gangsta rap. Afroman's style is reminiscent of those fun rap albums from the 80s with a bit of influence coming from that time, the late 80s and even a bit of the 90s style. The music here is very simple indeed. Definitely not an album to take seriously. But to call it old school, is to say it stands alongside the likes of the Treacherous Three, Kool Herc, DJ Hollywood, Afrika Bambaataa, Grandmaster Flash and the Furious Five, etc. etc. which it clearly does not. To the youth nowadays, those times are definitely far off in the past in their minds, if they even KNOW OF those times to begin with. To say that the early 90s is old school is like saying rock started in the 70s. One Love, Mykal Roze
