after 7 was all about babyface and l.a. reid. hell, the whole group had some relation to babyface and reid. from their '89 debut to their latest release with reflections, babyface and reid was very well a presence in just about all of their success. sure, after 7 could sing. as a matter fact, they could sing well, better than most R&B groups out at the time. they had a distinct tenor and 2nd tenor, more than i can say for other urban groups at the time. even with all of their homegrown talent, the story behind them was their production, namely l.a. reid and babyface. not to take away from their vocals. kevon and melvin could soar with the best of them, as shown on standout tracks like "one night", and "ready or not". they could even get funky on tracks such as "heat of the moment", "cant stop", and sayonara. overall, face and reid do a nice job laying out new jack beats so that this talented group can soar to the top of the R&B world. and they did, with two #1 r&b hits and a host of others that charted. It's not really an essential new jack album to have. This is more for the moderate new jack fan.
