The Most Underrated Vocal Group Around... by
Reviewed on March 3rd, 1999
Sure...Kenny Edmonds can write and produce like no other nowadays. But, his brothers, Melvin and Kevon (along with Keith Mitchell), are phenomenal vocalists. Still on the LaFace label and with a huge helping hand from Jon B, After 7 are at their best on this, their third album. They complement one another wonderfully and never leave you wanting for that "fourth" member to harmonize with. They cover all the bases. "'Til You Do Me Right" and "Damn Thing Called Love" looks at heartache in a relationship with a maturity most songs never even aspire to. "What U R 2 Me" could easily be mistaken for simple love poetry. If "How Do You Tell The One" breaks your heart, "(Honey) Oh How I Need You" will make you fall in love all over again. After 7 certainly shines on the ballads, but doesn't fall short of delivering on the uptempo songs. After 7 is for love 24/7.
