A very graceful exit by "-jonny-" Los Angeles, CA United States
Reviewed on May 11th, 2001
Buried in the liner notes of this album is, "1995 - The year punk broke my heart."Green Day and Offspring, fresh on the heels of Nirvana, were sucked up by corporate labels and the word punk became as meaningless as "alternative". Alice Donut, one of the most brilliant and important bands in punk decided to do something different for their swan song. This seminal East Village abnd pulled out their banjos and hollow guitars (Plus that trombone) and wrote a memorable and beautiful album dealing with the end of the millenium. You will be even more impressed with their Dynamiscm when you contrast this record with their penultimate realse, the 7" Nadine, which is very musically brutal for the Donut. Highlights of this album? The Roky Erichson cover, I Walked With A Zombie. Not only does it have Sissy singing, but it is beautiful. Insane is a really great song. Powerful, prefect chorus, all that. Millenium is also very good. So is The Unspeakable Pleasure of Being Me. Big Cars & Blow Jobs and The Senator and The Cabin boy are classic Alice Donut wit. In short, not a bad song on here. I really like this record.
