Cliches Abound

Ms. Moorer has one of the strongest, most affecting voices to come out of the Nashville conglomerate machine in years--a truly captivating talent. The production is first-rate as well. But the songs--most of them self-penned or co-written--wallow in musical and lyrical cliche. The lyrics are almost uniformly unoriginal, mostly of the oh-my-aching-heart variety, while the melodies all sound the same, variations of the well-worn Nashville beer-crying formula.Perhaps Ms. Moorer will improve as a songwriter on her next effort. If not, she'd be best advised to search out material to match her powerful voice.
