It took me awhile to get into this Cd but once I did I was hooked. Filthy Mind moves at hyper speed and makes me feel like I'm at some dance club in the city dancing beneath a strobe light. While Numb is it's polar opposite, making me feel like I'm floating underwater as a storm brews above me, it reaches a beautiful crescendo at the end. For me it is a very personal song to listen to because it is a vivid image of the tempest of anger and pain that can lie hidden beneath the tranquil mask of depression. Her voice on the track goes from sounding like she's been sedated to an outburst of emotion that has her imploring: "Won't someone help me feel numb.." While on Cellophane her voice sounds like a wild bird cry in the emptiness of a gray sky, making me feel the loneliness and bitterness and disconnectedness one can feel. If your looking for la,la,la sunshine world music then you'd probably want to look elsewhere. This is music that is genius enough make you look at sadness and pain as a thing of beauty, as a vital living force, a natural part of the human emotional spectrum. If you want to find connection to the world by exploring the depths of disconnection (I hope that made a little sense!!) then you might want to try Amanda's beautiful CD.
