Stunning

This is Amanda Marshall's first album, and it is incredible. I could listen to it all day. Every track is brilliant. A few of the songs took a while to grow on me, but the power of Marshall's voice and the quality of the lyrics hit home. These songs speak about issues that people can relate to, from the end of relationships (Beautiful Goodbye - a haunting song) to the joys of love (Sittin' On Top Of The World - a really fun song that is great to sing along with) to the hopeful, poignant Trust Me This Is Love (a wonderful song, that relates to many different types of relationships, although most probably just think of it as a romantic love song). Two other tracks that are worthy of note are Dark Horse and Birmingham. Marshall knows how to use her voice to convey different emotions - she understands the deeper meaning of her songs, and she infuses them with life. She can find both the humor/irony and the pathos in lines like "Friday night he pulled a gun to change the channel/Somethin' that he picked from the King." What's wonderful about this album is that it has such a range of music, while remaining true to the theme of relationships. If you haven't got this CD yet, I highly reccommend that you do so... you won't regret it.
