Soaring. Spirited. Graceful. Haunting. Rousing. Arresting. This CD is all of the above. Marshall is an artist I certainly hope I hear more from. I have a real affection for strong female vocal music in a rock - pop style, and this CD fits right into my collection next to Beth Hart, Joan Osborne, Paula Cole and Patty Griffin. I suppose that Marshall is exhibiting the sort of talent that could ultimately lead her to musical greatness and respect on the level of some of my true favorites like Emmylou Harris, Heart and Chrissy Hynde... time will tell. This is a wonderful CD, and the track "Beautiful Goodbye" builds to one of the most powerful and moving crescendos I have heard in this type of music in a long time. Some here have compared Marshall to Amy Grant... while I see the similarity in vocal styling, Marshall takes far greater risks and generally just kicks a lot more tail. "Birmingham" remids me of Joan Osborne's "Pensacola" and Paula Cole's "Mississippi"... while not as gritty as either of those songs, it is more beautiful and subtly spooky. I love this CD. I highly recommend it.
