I'd give it more stars if I could

I rarely buy CD's anymore, for what I feel is a good reason. There are often not enough good songs on a CD to justify the cost. Well, I sampled this album in it's entirety, and just had to have it the same day. I had already heard some of Anggun's English work via the internet, and when Snow on the Sahara hit it big here in the States. I also saw a video for her song "Rose In the Wind" on MTV India some time ago, and was substantially impressed. Anggun's work is at once sensual and complex, weaving tapestries of places and stories of people in a style that is both emotionally compelling and technically astounding. Her voice is rich and deep, though capable of moving all over the audio spectrum, and her delivery is punctuated with emotion and power. To complement her voice is instrumental work drawing from a variety of Asian influences, presumably from her native Indonesia, as well as from various other parts of that continent's vast musical traditions. The synthesis of Asian sounds with more western pop-rhythms is very compelling, especially in songs like "Valparaiso" and "Dream of Me." As an avid Peter Gabriel fan, I was as impressed with the utterly unique instrumental work as I was with her rich and powerful vocal talents. Indeed, this album has really changed what I look for from music. Her songs create worlds of their own, brought to vivid life by Anggun's marvelous voice. I already want to get the french version of this album. There are also numerous club mixes available on the internet; I do not know what albums they might be found on.
