I am a big fan of music. However, I will admit that I more often lead towards pop music than I do alternative, but occasionally a pop/punk artist will catch my ear, and that's exactly what happened with Ashlee Simpson's AUTOBIOGRAPHY. Yes, her songs are often about love, or breaking-up, but the background tracks really are great, and definitely turn the songs featured on AUTOBIOGRAPHY into something other than just your mainstream pop. While every song was fabulous, which is a big shock, especially for a debut album, the songs that I find myself playing over and over again would have to be:
*"Love Me For Me" (Track 7) - Ashlee's voice isvery raspy and scratchy, which is different and unique, and sounds great when she sings. This particular song has an awesome chorus that really makes the track stand out among the rest. *"Love Makes the World Go Round" (Track 5) - Again, the chorus really makes this song stand out. However, the other lyrics are also quite catchy, and the beat is fabulous. *"Surrender" (Track 8) - I originally heard bits of this song on THE ASHLEE SIMPSON SHOW, and initially I didn't think I would like it. However, when listened to in it's entirety, it actually sounds awesome. This song just proves that you have to hear the whole thing before you judge a track. *"Better Off" (Track 5) - This track is ultimately going to appeal to anyone who's in a relationship, as it really describes what the two people in the relationship are going through. It's one of the slower songs, but has a fast upbeat chorus that will get everyone jumping. *"LALA" (Track 4) - This is Ashlee's 3rd single, which is being played on radio right now. It's amazing to see that this is one of my favorite songs, because initially I wasn't too sure about it. But once you give it a couple of full-through listens you really get into it. The chorus is extremely catchy. Sometimes I find myself singing it in my head for hours and hours at a time. "Pieces of Me" (Track 2) - Ashlee's first single. I loved this song from the first time that I heard it. It's part slow/part fast, and definitely has an element to it that will please listeners. "Shadow" (Track 3) - Ashlee's second single. Again, I heard this track performed on THE ASHLEE SIMPSON SHOW, and wasn't sure that I would like it, as on first listen it sounded very whiny. However, I have definitely grown to love it. Ashlee's voice sounds really great, and the chorus is awesome. "Autobiography" (Track 1) - The title track, and possibly Ashlee's fourth single. I think a lot of listeners will be able to relate to this song, as it really states how rumors don't mean a thing, you have to get your information straight from the source. Ashlee's voice sounds fairly raspy at times in this song, but it really sounds good.
Overall, I'd say that this is probably one of the best debut albums that I have ever listened to. Ashlee's unique sounding voice really makes every track sound awesome, and one thing she is lucky about, is the fact that every song on AUTOBIOGRAPHY has a fabulous chorus, so listeners will be rocking out to the whole album.
