*Ciara Will Have You 1,2 Stepping To Her Goodies*

After owning this album since back when "Goodies" first came out I decided to write my review of this cd. I had a hard time trying to make up the best review I can and I think I finally got it. Let me start by saying how many people seem to take Ciara for granted or as if she's some kind of joke, now with two top-charting smash singles people are starting to believe in her. Maybe she's not your usual household name artist like Alicia Keys, Beyonce, Ashanti or anybody like that but she's sure paving her way to become the next best entertainer out there. With "Goodies" hitting #1 on the Billboard Hot 100 and now "1,2 Step" quietly lurking to a #2 spot only behind MARIO'S "Let Me Love You" Ciara is sure guaranteed a spot amongst the already pop-filled divas world.
Now I will review the cd which I find is extremely well produced with an all-around team that has put Ciara on the map. They include: Jazze Pha, Missy Elliot, R. Kelly (which produced the song Next To You), Anthony "T.A." Tate, Henry "Noonie" Lee, J. Austin (which produced for Aaliyah), Lil' John and S. Garrett (which also produced for the late great Aaliyah).
The album starts with the #1 single "Goodies" which everybody knows is a club banger and a party starter. This is one is a straight out for the cockiness in you. This was the first reason why I picked up this cd in the first place, not knowing there was so many hot joints in this cd. Of course it crossed my mind to think of Ciara as a one-hit wonder but then came "1,2 Step" and I found myself stepping into it...je je je...this song has some kind of spark to it...a feel good track, someting that is not overproduced but works its magic, seems like they could overplay this song over and over and I still wouldn't get enough of it. This song reminds me of a Halloween party I went to, they played this song when it was barely hitting the airways and I actually knew the lyrics by then. In track #3 titled "Thugstyle" Ciara tells her man to "hurry, hurry, hurry," and come over her crib cause her parents are gone. The song is filled of cute choruses and catchy lyrics with a nice midtempo beat including her "la la la la la la la, la la". "Hotline" has a crazy beat, its a track layed down and spinned on backwards...it's crazy, reminds me of Missy Elliott's "Work It" and Ciara's soft sassy voice flows perfectly with this uptempo...in it she say's "call me up hotline, I got some conversation I can be your operator don't you keeep me waiting cause Im lovin what youre saying" This track works wonder on here. Track #5 "Oh" is another of those hot joints up on top with "Goodies" and 1,2 Step" definitely a street banger. This one features Ludacris and he adds more than steam to this track. This one has a straight southern-filled vibe to it. Im not from the south but this stuff is Hot Hot Hot, reminiscent of T.I's "Rubberband Man". 3rd single written all over it. On "Pick Up The Phone" she tells her man to look at his caller id and notice how she's tring to reach him and how she's worried about him, another of those tracks filled with catchy choruses and a nice beat along with it. "Lookin' At You" she's telling her boo how he turns her on and how he catches her attention, she say's "all I wanna do is get to know you better, Im the ghetto girl that can do whatever" again, everything works on here even the funky beat will have you on your feet. On track #8 "Ooh Baby" it's been done many times the girl letting her man know how into him she is, Ciara's version works well, with nice lyrics and once again the beat goes hand in hand with the vocals. "Next To You" is one of the slow ballads of the album. Written by R. Kelly its an okay song for Ciara, she carries along the tune well and will not dissapoint at all. Kinda sounds like a lullaby with the bells in the background. You may end up skipping once in a whilebut either way it will grown in you. Track #10 is "And I" this song is another of the ballads of the album where she says she doesn't need a basketball player and claims to be in love, all she wants is somebody who wont't break her heart. This one sounds perfect for Ciara to sing to. It sounds like one of those ballads Monica, Brandy or Aaliyah would put out. She doesn't fall short either. "Other Chicks" is a song where Ciara doesn't care about them other chicks, she does things her own way. When the song starts playing it sounds like one of those 90's R&B songs that bring back so much memories. Glad to see Ciara bring something back from the 90's. "The Title" starts out really cool, and gets better as the beat goes on, her voice is okay, she never oversings or tries to do something maybe she can't. This song is saying she want the title of his girl, his best friend, and all that. The beat is sampled from an old school joint I've heard before, I just can't think of whose it is. and this is the only sample she has on the entire cd. The last song on the album is a remix of "Goodies" with Jazze Pha and T.I. they add their own verses and does nothing for the song. I like the breakdown part where the beat plays alone.

In summary: Ciara may not have the best vocals but she does not dissapoint, she doesn't try to get up in the listener's ear, some people feel the beats save her vocals, but then again ARTISTS GROW and Ciara is definitely heading on the right direction with this cd. I consider this one one of the best debuts of 2004 in the R&B/Hip Hop category. Many people are taking her for granted but again, this cd has gone PLATINUM and soon to be 2X PLATINUM. She is only 18 years old so she has a long way to go I wish her nothing but the best. If you find yourself bumping Goodies (album or song) recommend it to your homeboys and homegirls...lets take her to the top ya'll, she truly deserves it.
