The best I have heard...and NOT Blind Guardian

First of let me say thet I am a metal fan and a music lover. I think $9000 tube amps, cd players and pre-amps by BAT are great. That said this is the best album in my collection of 250 or so CDs. Yes, umung all my classical, jazz, rock, folk and Celtic this is the best..but also the worst..read on.This is NOT a colarboration between Iced Earth (IE) and Blind Guardian (BG). Not really. Why? Well all the songs are written and played by members (present and past) of IE. I have or have heard all of their albums and this sounds like Iced Earth with a different lead singer. Sorry but when the bass, lead and rithym gitars are played and all the songs are written by the creative force of IE (as well as an old drummeer from IE), how can you call it a colaboration? This is not a bad thing though. I love the voice of BG, but I can;t stand thier music (I've heard most of it from all thier albums). It seems too drum machine, the lyrics are too simple ect. That said ths album is fantasitc. The tempos change frequenently within each track, the lyrics are provoking, the melodies soar. Hasi is a great vocalist and he shines in a way that he doean't on BG's albums. All and all there is a string almost folky quality to the album that manages to retains that unique IE grind. The track 'My Last Sunrise' is my over-all favorite. I love the inniovative vocal work. There are some really clever over tones that are created when you listen to this disk on a great system. But unfortunatly the production is terrible. Let me explain. I listed to this on a $30,000 tube system last week. On my more modest system and in the car it sounds fine. However on this other system I could hear the compression, the distortion was too brite, the kick drums a little tinny and the cymbols rattled my teeth in my mouth. It was not the system however as Tool, Pink Floyd and Metallica (black album) sounded great. Unfotunatly this is nothing unusual as I woudl bet 75% of my metal album sound this way. If you are a fan of Iced Earth + folk BUY THIS DISC. If you like Blind Guardian look elsewhere. there is very littel Blind Gaudian on this disk.
