starting with the classic "duke of prunes"...tracks 2, 3, and 4 make up this catchy "oratorio" that, once heard, demands to be played over again and again. track 1, "plastic people", although one of the most popular tracks on the album, is very overrated and is out-done by "brown shoes don't make it". plastic people - people who follow the daily rat race and are materialisitc and cold-hearted - are mentioned in both songs but they are immortalized and ripped apart in "brown shoes don't make it"...a 7 1/2 minute song that covers everything from plastic people, to school, to even incest. that's another song that needs repeated listenings. also included on the cd are 2 tracks not released on the original lp "big leg emma" and "why don'tcha do me right?" and both of them are classics! "call any vegetable", the second "oratorio", is so weird and entertaining that it grows on you after 1 or 2 listens. tracks 5, 6 and 7 combine to create this awesome piece. track 6 is a 7 minute instrumental part of the song that will have you jumping all around where ever you hear it. too weird for the novice listener. start with strictly commercial and/or over-nite sensation to see if you can grip the man's humor and musical genius. and let me tell you novice listeners....it gets better after that...much better.
