Listen to Sheik Yerbouti friends. And why you ask? We listen to Frank Zappa, because it is our duty to speak in this place, of musical freedom, musical quality, musical devotion. Let us talk about depth. Character. Composition. Is music not concerned any more with the honest composition of melodies? Zappa... that one hallowed word reverently dictates what you ought to be, what you can be, what you will be. It is your rallying point: to build courage when courage seems to fail; to regain faith when there seems to be little cause for faith; to create hope when hope becomes forlorn.These are some of the things that listening to the music of Frank Zappa will do for you: it builds your basic character. Frank molds you for your role as the custodian of the nation's musical integrity. Zappa makes you strong enough to know when you are weak, and brave enough to face yourself when you are afraid. He teaches you to be proud and unbending in honest failure, but humble and gentle in success; not to substitute words for actions, not to seek the path of comfort, but to face the stress and spur of difficulty and challenge; to learn to stand up in the storm but to have compassion on those who fall; to master yourself before you seek to master others; to have a heart that is clean, a goal that is high; to learn to laugh, yet never forget how to weep; to reach into the future yet never neglect the past; to be serious yet never to take yourself too seriously; to be modest so that you will remember the simplicity of true greatness, the open mind of true wisdom, the meekness of true strength. Zappa gives you a temper of the will, a quality of the imagination, a vigor of the emotions, a freshness of the deep springs of life, and an appetite for adventure over love of ease. Zappa creates in your heart the sense of wonder, the unfailing hope of what's next, and the joy and inspiration of life. I join you in this firm, this one unalterable truth: Es gibt nur ein Frank Zappa. [There is only one Frank Zappa.] Zappa fans, it is natural to man to indulge in the illusions of hope in these dark and perilous times. We are apt to shut our eyes against the painful truth, and listen to the song of sirens, (like Christina Aguilera) till she transforms us into stupid slobbering beasts. Is this the part of wise men, engaged in a great and arduous struggle for musical quality and free-thinking? Are we disposed to be of the number of those who, having ears, hear not the things which so nearly concern their musical, indeed, their life's happiness? No! Viva! Eat more Zappa!
