Gretchen Wilson is great for country music! She's like the female Travis Tritt, with her harder country edge. She tells you right away she's "not some high-class broad". She sings she doesn't care if you think she's "trashy or a little too hard-core", and I like that she doesn't care! It makes me hopeful she will never turn into a POP singer! Gretchen's the kick in the pants country music needs right now when it comes to female country singers. The country charts are dominated by males, mainly because the vast majority of female so-called "country" singers are in reality POP singers. It makes me laugh to see someone call Faith and Shania the "true faces" of country. Their music is 99% pop, 1% country! Patty Loveless and Reba, now those are examples of "true faces" of country. Faith "save" country? HELLO...she turned pop after just two albums, and that was a loooong time ago! So now I will listen to Gretchen right along with my Patty Loveless and Reba CDs. Gretchen hit #1 after just 12 weeks! Go Gretchen! The fans are speaking by sending Gretchen to #1. "Classy" isn't the epitome of country. HONESTY is, and that's exactly what Gretchen is. She's also a good singer. If you like harder-rocking country, like Tritt, I highly recommend this cd. Tritt said "Put Some Drive In Your Country", and I'm glad to hear Gretchen doing just that! If Gretchen's too hard-core for you, that's ok, just wait patiently for Faith's new POP album and that will make you feel a whole lot better.
