This CD is original, imaginative, and overall very creative. The best songs are definitely the first 4, however, the rest are very neo-magic in themselves. Noteworthy are: "What You Waiting For?" - A great first dance single with some insight on a frustrated creative person. "Rich Girl" - An awesome dancehall spin on a Fiddler On the Roof song where Gwen confronts what other people might say she is trying to pull off by going solo. "Hollaback Girl" - Produced by the Neptunes, this is an instant cheerleader classic (and one your friends and you will be screaming to in the car). "Cool" - A classic 80's-type electro-pop ballad where Gwen reviews her relationship with Tony (No Doubt's bassist): a breakup, a marriage, and many years later. "Danger Zone" - Sounds like Gavin is in trouble with Gwen on this one. I really like the flow of the chorus and the lyrics remind me a little of something that would be in "Return of Saturn".
Buy this album if: 1) You love 80's dance music (Madonna, Prince, etc) 2) You are looking for something new 3) You are a Gwen fan who loves "It's My Life" and "What You Waiting For" and you carry a LAMB bag (or think they're cute).
Don't Buy this album if: 1) You want to hear something you've already heard before. 2) Creative flow of music is not your thing. 3) You don't like No Doubt's "new stuff"
I recommend this album to everyone who fits the "buy this album if" section. If people don't like it, I just think it's because they are looking for something that they've already heard before (and trust me, repetition is always a disappointment). Thank-you Gwen for giving us something new and creative!
