Released in 1978 after the release of "News of the World", Jazz was a great mix of all kinds of music. By this time in their lives, Queen had made a name for themselves all over the world. This album is no exception to the fantastic stuff they had produced before.
The first song, "Mustapha" is a song that is in a completely different language, but is still a great song. 9/10 The next song, "Fat Bottom Girls" is too rock! Written by Brian May, it's a great tribute to the groupie girls that are committed to rock bands everywhere. Great song 10/10 "Jealousy" is grossly overlooked, but is a fantastic Mercury song. It's a great love song about being jealous when you lose someone and they go off and move on. Piano and lyrics are top-notch here... 10/10 "Bicycle Race" is the follow-up to "FBG", and is just as cool. The music video that went with it wasn't released until last year with "Greatest Flix 2", it featured about 75 naked girls racing bikes around a track in England! Too funny... 9/10
A John Deacon song, "If You Can't Beat Them" is a fun rock song, very pop. Not something you would expect from Deacon, but still great. 8.5/10 Next comes one of my favorites, "Let Me Entertain You", which is sick rock/glam combined with the semi-pompous attitude Freddie could pull off so brilliantly. 10/10 "Dead on Time" is a pure Brian May (guitarist) piece, with rip-roaring guitar and a super fast pace. Another hard rock bit. 8/10 "In only Seven Days" is sweet and another Deacon (bassist) hit. Almost completely piano and high pitched vocals, it's a great ballad type. 9.5/10
So onto the last 5 songs. "Dreamer's Ball" my favorite song off the album. It is definitely an acquired taste because it is another one of those songs that Queen pulled out of nowhere and made a great song. It is a slow 60's country type song, and I love it! 10/10 "Fun It" Roger Taylor's ode to disco. With a fun beat and great lyrics by the drummer, this song is surprisingly great! 9/10 "Leaving Home Ain't Easy" is probably my second favorite on the album, only because it is so well written. Anyone who has moved out on their own will like this song. Written AND sung by Brian May, it is a great song. 10/10 OK, now for the best song: "Don't stop me now" is, as someone else put it, the song that Cole Porter never wrote. Mostly piano and drums, it is fantastic! 10/10 Finally, "More of that Jazz" is the follow up to "Fun It" and is another great Taylor song. 8/10
"Jazz" is a fantastic CD, with almost every kind of song style imaginable. LOVE IT, recomend it to any rocker!
