With the release of John Legend's debut GET LIFTED, there is hope for R&B music lovers everywhere. Before John, Alicia Keys was carrying the torch all by herself, but here comes John Legend to the rescue. This debut CD deserves all of the praise its getting and more. And once again, Kanye West showcases his talent as a producer.
John opens the album with the hypnotic LET'S GET LIFTED and closes with the equally mesmerizing LIVE IT UP. He is like a modern day Stevie Wonder/Ray Charles/Marvin Gaye all blended together. If you can imagine that with a contemporary flavor, then you'll understand the nature of this recording. It's truly very special. His live version of "Ordinary People" on Jay Leno was even better than the recorded version.
I hope people haven't written off R&B for good because this is an album you don't want to miss. Give John a chance because he'll surprise you.
