Rehashed, Ripped Off Stax & Hi Records Era Psuedo-Soul

John Legend - In a league of his own? Bite your tongues! This album lacks shine, grit and steam! Every few seasons, a new 'singer' comes along and is heralded as the next "so and so" from a much better musical era past. I wasted my precious time and $$$ on this disc. "Get Lifted" album's success owes a huge debt to the fact that people - the masses - hunger for REAL music and not this waning warmed over, recycled-rehashed insipid effort to revive a sound right out of the Stax/Hi/Motown Records Golden Age(in his case, the first half of the 1970's). Here we find Mr. Legend vocally striking a pose as either Al Green, Marvin Gaye, Teddy Pendergrass, Isaac Hayes and a host of other Classic Soul[male]artists simply to "cash in". Reel them in John, and rip off the still in print catalogues of Soul Music's true masters of song. I should have known better - just from the familiar and similar Marvin Gaye-Eddie Kendricks styled pose cover shot, even worse, the artist lacks a distinct musical identity of his own. For the "real deal" and your listening pleasure, seek out the remastered, reissued various discs[available]of the above mentioned Soul artists plus Bill Withers, Sam Cooke, Smokey Robinson, Willie Mitchell and a few others - you'll get much more "bang" for your invested $$$ and an eternity of listening bliss.
