Very rarely do I spot-buy music, but long ago I found myself mad-dashing to the customer service department of a local music store to find out whose pipes were blaring over the sound system. A quiet and scraggly, yet beautifully human gentleman standing next to me said simply, "That's Joss Stone." The song: Super Duper Love. The rest is history.
My ears were partaking of the next rare gem to emerge on the music scene; a genuine breath of fresh air. I inhaled deeply. There's nothing wrong with the Christina's, Kelly Clarkson's and Beyonce's of the world, but if you're seeking a special kind of world...step into Ms. Joss Stone's world. She will do to her generation what Alicia Keys did to them just a few years back - introduce them to what I like to call "real school music."
The CD cover, I believe, is deliberately disguised so that one cannot tell that Joss is Caucasian - a 16-year Caucasian lass at that. It is meant for you to experience first... There is so much soul, energy and originality bottled up in that tiny body of hers; she conjures up memories of the beginnings of a young Teena Marie. Sample "For the Love of You" where Joss puts her own spin on the old Isley Brothers classic. Next, taste "I Had A Dream", though the sample here does not do it adequate justice. Joss' rendition is simply beautiful.
Who else can walk out barefoot and grace the stage with the legendary Gladys Knight for a knock-out performance? Joss Stone, that's who.
This CD is in heavy rotation, so much so that it's time for another copy! I trust her and am eagerly awaiting the release of her sophmore album. (Joss puts you in the mood to want to say "album" instead of "CD"; she's just that good.) Get a piece of the Stone. You won't look back!
