"The Soul Sessions" is a excellent debut album for the truly gifted Joss Stone. Stone's extraordinary vocals surpass her age and nationality, and her raw talent and promise are undeniable. The album is a joy to listen to. I have listened to this CD so many times but I never get sick of it!
1. The Chokin' Kind - A really beautiful song that showcases Stone's voice well. 8.5/10. 2. Super Duper Love - GREAT song! One of my faves on this CD. Uplifting and never fails to brighten my mood. Very catchy, up-tempo, with well-used backing vocals. 9.5/10. 3. Fell In Love With A Boy - The leading track that inspired me to buy the CD. Cover of The White Stripes "Fell In Love With A Girl" with Joss Stone's own unique flavour. Backing vocalists include Angie Stone. I absolutely LOVE it! My favourite song on the CD. 10/10. 4. Victim Of A Foolish Heart - Another gorgeous song. Stone's vocals are smooth. 8/10 5. Dirty Man - This track isn't really about the song but about showing off how good Stone's voice really is. Very simply arranged with only Stone's voice and two guitars. Doesn't stand out at first but grows on you. This was the last dong they recorded for the album, on May 12th 2003. 7.5/10 6. Some Kind Of Wonderful - One of my faves! This song cheers me up, it's upbeat, makes me want to sing along. It's great. I listen to it a lot. 9.5/10 7. I've Fallen In Love With You - Very nice. I like the lyrics and the backing vocals work well. This was the first song they recorded for the album, in February 2003. 8/10 8. I Had A Dream - Stone's voice drips with emotion in this song, especially in the intro. One of my faves. Truly beautiful. 9.5/10 9. All The King's Horses - I LOVE this song! There is a great build-up throughout the song. Joyful and bubbly. 9.5/10 10. For The Love Of You - Unhurried and elegant. Lovely song, nice close to the album. Also very simple with just the keyboard. 8/10.
