Very good, but they need to get better - and they should

I heard this these guys at my sister's house and was very impressed. So much so, I went out and bought the CD the following day. Upon further review, I was still very impressed by several aspects of the band. They got soul. You can feel it. It comes from their toes. They sing very well together. They don't step on eachother's toes, musically. There is enough tension in the music to keep it interesting, but not distracting. Their songs are well written and enjoyable. Even with all those things going for them, there's a loosness that seems to border on distracting. It's not a "bend don't break" feel - like Jack DeJohnette describes about Santana, it's almost as if they let the music take hold of them instead of the other way around. It may be me - I'm a drum instructor and semi-pro musician - but it takes a little away from the playing and the songs. To be sure, all three Garza bothers are outstanding players and very good musicians (yes, there is a difference), they can still get better. I can only hope they will. If they do, the sky's the limit. If I could I would give it 3.5 stars, but since I can't, they deserve a better rating. The three songs that REALLY define this band (to me) are Dime Mi Amor, Onda & Crazy Dream. Check it out.
