I bought this CD for my tex-mex father in law for Christmas. We played it through Christmas dinner and that was it - I had to have a copy of it! I am a musician who likes everything from the Beatles to Aretha, to Elton to Motely Crue, Godsmack and Queensryche to Rachmaninoff. This is a very talented band and one of the best bands I've heard in a long time.
Their album features some straightforward honest lyrics, beautiful melodic harmonies, outstanding bass riffs and santana-ish drumming. The guitar player, Henry is very reminiscent of the late-great Stevie Ray but I also hear Eric Clapton and even some Hendrix stylizations in there.
I think they are being classified as a country band (since Willie Nelson produced them).I am not a huge fan of country music as a whole (although I appreciate many of the talented country music artists) - and I wouldn't consider these guys country at all. Nor would you totally consider them a Tex-mex or Santana band -they are really in a class of their own bringing in all their wonderful influences into an entirely new genre of music.
This is the first album I've owned in about 20 years that I've liked every song on the album...when's the last time YOU could say that??
