I usually purchase albums on the decision of how much I like the few singles a band/solo singer releases. Unfortunately, due to this whim, I often end up with albums that I dislike immensely. So is not the case with Maroon 5's SONGS ABOUT JANE. SONGS ABOUT JANE feature twelve outstanding songs that can put your mind at ease no matter what is troubling you. A fabulous fact is that each song has it's own sound, as opposed to mimicking previous songs and lyrics on the album. While each track is powerful, there are a few stand-out tracks that should be mentioned.
*"Harder to Breathe" (Track 1) - I was surprised to even find out that this was Maroon 5 when I heard this song on the radio. The drum beats - by Ryan Dusick - are unbelievable, as is the sound of Adam Levine's voice. *"This Love" (Track 2) - This is the single that originally tuned me into Maroon 5. I adore the beat of the bass - played by Mickey Madden - and the guitar - played by both James Valentine and Adam Levine - with the occasional drum beat thrown in to make the song even better. *"She Will Be Loved" (Track 4) - Another one of their singles that encouraged me to purchase SONGS ABOUT JANE. Everything about this song is perfect, the lyrics, Adam Levine's voice, and the instrumental accompaniment by Ryan Dusick, Jesse Carmichael, James Valentine, and Mickey Madden. Just an all-around sweet song. *"The Sun" (Track 6) - I can't put my finger on what I like about this song, but it's just a fabulous track to listen to. The lyrics are fairly powerful, and really make this an enjoyable song. *"Must Get Out" (Track 7) - There's only one this to say about this song, and it's that the chorus is fantastic. Adam Levine's voice is just so strong, and capable and it shines through on this track.
Overall, this was a fabulous album. In fact, it's probably one of the best albums to be released in the last few years. Listeners of alternative music will really appreciate Maroon 5's contribution to the music world. I only hope to hear a new album from them soon.
