Can an album be so perfect? I guess it can...

1982 is the year... The year 'Security', Peter Gabriel's fourth solo album was released. While I listen to my newly purchased limited edition copy that just came in today, I think of the things that were special about it back then... It was a pioneer in the use of digital recording techniques and sampling, at a time, when synthesizers were far from being a commonplace technology. The splash cymbals, that almost all drum accompaniments have us used to are, simply... not there... PG prohibited their use by drummer Jerry Marotta, which translated into a richer use of the possibilities that this instrument has. Participation of ethnic musicians (Ekome Dance Company), something which Gabriel started to do more and more in the following two decades.

I could go on, and on, but most important about this album is that, today, twenty years after its release, it still has as much life (if not more) than back then, which translates in the fact that the poll that petergabriel.com put up for fans to vote on the track listing for his new UP Tour, 6 of the eight tracks from 'Security' made it to the top 10.

If you have never heard "old" Peter Gabriel, this album has to be in your collection. If you have and own this album -my case- get this beautifully packaged limited edition, which comes filled with pictures of the period and remastered versions of all songs. You will be gladly surprised to rediscover "Wallflower", one of Peter's most beautiful musical creations.
