my main reason for adding this review to the 338 others or so (at the time of my writing of this; don't want to cause any confusion for the next generation of Amazon.com consumers/reviewers) is to make a simple clarification about the lyrics and the overall theme of the album. After having read maybe 50 of these reviews, I was getting a little frustrated. Most people seem to conclude something like "music's great regardless of whether or not you understand German." What is that? I mean, sure, the electronics in Du Hast and the sounds of orgasmic bliss at the beginning of Spiel Mit Mir require no translations to be understood and, at least in regards to the former, enjoyed. But wouldn't the disturbing images in the CD jacket alone (just check out the cover, if you've never seen it) make you a little curious about what exactly is being said? Not surprisingly, the theme of the album is not a pleasant one. The title of the CD is Sehnsucht (also the name of track #1, one of the stronger tracks on the album). Every song on the CD is somehow related to "sehnsucht", since sehnsucht translates to "longing"...innocent enough, until you realize what types of longing Rammstein explores on some of the songs. Buck Dich, for example, means "bend over"...'nuff said. Possibly the most disturbing is the aforementioned Spiel Mit Mir...although the, uh, distintive opening to the song serves as a decent precursor, I guess, to what follows, you still would never expect to hear what you hear (upon translation). Translated to "Play with Me", I'm not going to go any further into describing what it's about, except for the fact that it definitely must be considered consistent with that all-important theme of longing. check out the website, or, even better, find a friend who already has. Even better than that, print out the lyrics in German, drive to the German neighborhood of your city, ask some nice, unsuspecting German-American (f*ck, an illegal German immigrant works too) if he/she can translate these lyrics for you (if by this point you have any idea of the jist of the song, don't blow your cover), and have fun watching their reaction. Just as long as that reaction doesn't involve calling the cops for harassment. I've been a little long-winded, should probably make like the Bible and create a bracketed short form, but I would be foolish to not conclude this by saying that whether you know it or not, you long for German industrial music; you long for sehnsucht. Just do me a favor and don't share some of Till's (singer's)professed longings. PS: female vocalist on Engel is Till's wife; I know that there exists another Rammstein song that features Till's young daughter too (not on Sehnsucht though).
