The Cinemas Palme D'Or sells the soundtrack at the concession stand. Before the closing credits rolled we rushed out and bought this soulfest.
Soul, R&B, jazz, rock, country and gospel. Ray was the original innovator. A review of the movie is probably outside the scope of this, so I'll just offer my Oscar prediction for Best Musical Score: Ray all the way! And a Grammy too!
We lost a great artist whose music lives on. REAL music. Some whites and blacks failed to appreciate his music, the blacks for religious reasons, the whites because "that jungle stuff is corrupting our kids." Wonder what they would say about rap? Well, they do say it, it's just that the voices have gotten less hateful (Bill O'Reilly). People are waking up to quality. As Ace Atkins' DIRTY SOUTH says, "Rap isn't music. Blues is music." (I'm paraphrasing.) Read DIRTY SOUTH and listen to "Ray!" I'm listening to "Marianne" right now.
That said, this soundtrack doesn't have all the great performances of the movie. I was slightly disappointed.
