The original motion picture soundtrack -- RAY -- is an awesome tribute to the trailblazing, vocalist and musician -- RAY CHARLES. A trailblazing genius (out of the box and a little off-beat) was truly his mark upon the music industry world-wide. His blend of gospel with rhythm and blues stirred controversy across america, upon his introduction of the rockin' mixture. Ray Charles was also the leading vocalist and musician with documented cross-over appeal. To his credit were 10 hits in five categories. Although deceased, he still holds the record.
Taylor Hackford, Director and Producer is to be commended for his selection of original recordings compiled in the sound-track. The soundtrack is comprised of Ray's jammin', toe-tappin' earlier recordings such as Mess Around and I've Got a Woman; and is inclusive of some of his greatest hits like Hit the Road Jack and Unchain my Heart. Also, contained in the selection ordered up by Taylor, and approved by Ray Charles are two tracks of the unforgettable--Georgia on my Mind, cut from the albums Genius Hits the road (1960) and Ray Charles Live in Japan (1976).
What a Tribute!!! Not even the movie supercedes this enjoyable soundtrack. Upon leaving the movie, the first thing that I wanted to do was go home, get on-line, and order the soundtrack, so that the tribute to the trailblazer could continue at home, in my car, or on Saturday while cleaning my house and moving to the beat of Ray Charles.
