Why Did They Have To Break Up?

Savage Garden were truly a great group. They were very much pop, but yet had a very sophisticated presence which made for an interesting combination. Their debut was an excellent one and hugely successful selling 7 million copies in the US alone. The album spawned a trio of radio hits "I Want You" is very catchy and not easy to get out of your head, "Truly Madly Deeply" was their first of two #1 singles and is a classic ballad. "To the Moon and Back" is not one of my personal favorites, but it's still a great song. Even the non-singles are very good. Highlights include "Tears of Pearls", "Carry On Dancing", "Break Me Shake Me" and "Promises." Any one of these could have easily been radio hits...especially "Tears of Pearls" and "Promises." There honestly is not a bad song on here. Their second album "Affirmation" is also quite good and kept the hits coming. Then they broke up and it's a shame. These two guys were a great team and really made quality pop music. Radio loved them and they could still be really popular. I hope they reunite...pop radio really needs them right now.
