delightful!

for a long time now, we have seen pop music get butchered by corporate nobodies and flashy posers. We see bands like Britney Spears, the Backstreet Boys, Nick Carter, Aaron Carter, N-Sync, New Kids on the Block, J-Lo, and countless others create ..., unoriginal music, and we're supposed to believe these are the heirs of Michael Jackson and Madonna. Well, I find it comforting that despite this age's tendency toward making jejune music, there are still some artist trying to shape things up a bit. And Savage Garden are a perfect example of that. I mean, if a guy like me, who listens to a bunch of underground European bands whose names people can't pronounce (think Burzum, Therion, Bal-Sagoth, etc), can give five stars to a top-40 pop band, then there is no doubt that we can be hopeful.Savage Garden make a strong debut, with a slew of heart-felt songs that are also quite catchy. Two tracks ...: Universe, and Santa Monica. Not because they're too mainstream, but simply because they are boring. Aside from those two, we have such gems as A Thousand Words, Tears of Pearl, and I Want You, which have poetic lyrics, creative songwriting, and, of course, unbridled passion from singers, Darren Hayes and Daniel Jones. If only all pop music were this good!
