Not their best, but still awesome! by christopher aspen bath,UK
Reviewed on February 14th, 2004
This is a very good alblum, in my opinion not quite as good as Core, but still great. Here's a quick rundown of what I think of the songs:1. Meat Plow-One of the harder songs here, a good opener. When I first heard this song I didn't like it, but it kind of grows on you. Get's a 9 out of 10. 2. Vasoline-One of the two singles, pretty good, chatchy, but not one of my favorites. To be truthful, I never quite understood what it was supposed to be about. Get's a 8.5. 3. Lounge Fly-The 'grungiest' song on the alblum. One of my favorites, when I was 14 I used to love to play it loud and watch my mom turn red at the use of the 'F word'. Ah, the wonders of youth. It's cool how it goes from hard to soft. 9.5. 4. Interstate Love Song-The other single, an interesting song, one of the softer ones, it's almost countryish. I have to admit I'm rather fond of this one, I got my first kiss listening to it. Kind of ironic, since it's more of a goddbye song. 9.5. 5. Still Remains-Never liked this song, I always thought Weiland's voice sounded too twangy, like he was trying to do a crossover to country. Plus, it's just a little to soppy, "take a bath, I'll drink the water that you leave" is just a bit, well, not my style. 5.0. 6. Pretty Penny-Always hated this song, just somehow doesn't it with everything else. 3.0. 7. Silver Gun Superman-My favorite song, it's mean, hard and great. The vocals, guitar, drums, everthing is just great. 10.0. 8. Big Empty-A great love song, I love how it goes from soft and slow to heavier and faster. A really fun, uplifting song, one of my favorites. 9.5. 9. Unglued-I could never quite figure out why, but I love this song. There's just something really cool about it. 9.5. 10. Army Ants-Great, it starts off slow, then really beats your brains out. The big 'questioning song'. 10.0. 11. Kitchenware and Candybars-Proabaly the softest song, except maybe Pretty Penny, has a weird name, but it's a very good song. Also on the end off it is the hidden song, which is kind of stange, I never really liked it too much. 9.0 to Kitchenware and Candybars and 5.0 to the hidden song. Well, that's my thoughts on Purple, hope it will ave helped someone.
