No sophomore slump and then some (5 Stars)

Reviewed on September 29th, 2004

With In It For The Money Supergrass was able to surpass every critics expectations in two ways. First, they created an album as great as, if not greater than, it's predecessor. And second, they diverged almost completely from their Buzzcocks' fueled pop-punk and into a much more sophisticated form of Brit-Pop songcraft. Supergrass' status as a one-time thing is smashed to pieces by this masterpiece of an album. What made I Should Coco so great was its raw energy but on In It For The Money, Supergrass is able to show that they are just as good at crafting beautiful pop tunes as they are at blasting out some punk. During all this, Supergrass is able to keep their unique sense of humor and show that they know how to keep things fun while creating great music. One of the greatest examples of the Brit Pop era, In It For The Money is a fantastic album that many aspire to achieve but few manage to attain.
