Supergrass, surviving the hype that was britpop which fortunately/unfortunately was epitomised in one song; their "Allright", have with this album not merely managed to overcome the all too familiar sophomore jinx, but have managed to pull off a classic. The tunes are original, the album comes off as a whole all whilst managing to create a sound that is unsurpassable for a rock record in the 90's. Actually, only the Stone Roses inaugural album and Blur's selftitled effort are in the same sphere as this album. Highlights? The first 5 minutes where the title track explodes (and yes, the title is ironic) and subsequently converges into Richard III. And finally "late in the day", need one say more. six stars
