there are few albums produced in one's lifetime that can truly impact one's emotions and outlook on life. taking back sunday's first effort is that album. their emotional intensity, split vocal harmony, and amazing musical ability create a soundscape unparalleled by any other band in their genre. there are certain tracks which are standouts. you know how i do, the opening track, is a masterpiece of longing desire, building and building until a climax that makes one shake. the intensity of adam's voice strikes a chord that sends chills to one's spine. the other standout tracks are 'greatest romances', 'you're so last summer', 'cute without the e (cut from the team)', and 'timberwolves v. new jersey'. i'm not going to explain how each track is brilliant in its own way, because this isn't a collection of songs. this is a pure album. the mood is one of despair and heartbreak, of love and loss. in lieu of taking back sunday's recently announced hiatus, one begins to wonder if this band was really too good to be true. however, i'm not only going to recommend this album as an emotional, lyrical, and musical masterpiece, but i am also going to issue a warning, provided the band weathers their hiatus and stays together for years to come. this is only the beginning. let me repeat, this is only the beginning.
