Tonya Mitchell delivers a thoughtfully mature debut album. Unlike a lot of the sugar-coated pop from some of today's younger talents, Tonya displays vocals that can convey anger, happiness, or a touch of wistfulness without ever resorting to unbearable histrionics. Standout tracks include I Represent (which has shades of Aaliyah), Wasted Breath, and the huskily-voiced I Don't Wanna Fall In Love. My one complaint: Some of the slower tracks tend to blend together, but overall, this is a very good album.
