Been There, Done That Over And Over And Over Again by Jack Australia
Reviewed on January 10th, 2005
Admitedly I did hear Slither on the radio and thought it sounded refreshing considering the endless other "soft rock" pop tunes repeated churned out on my local commercial radio stations. At that point I didnt realise VR had band memebers of such "repute" and it only increased my anticipation to buy it once I found out. I think that was a mistake. Liking a musicians past work does not guarentee you'll like their later stuff. Liking various artists work as separate entities does not guarentee a collaboration will result in similar affinities. Slash still has his distinctive Gibson sound and distinctively uses his trademark bluesy riffs, but doesnt sound as raw as Appetite. Then again, I guess its not GNR. Generally the album is OK, but most of the songs are forgetable and wont be considered defining classics in the years to come like some of the songs from GNR or STP. Probably more an album you'd put on in the background for a bit of ambient noise rather than crank it up and practise your air guitar moves.More "Contraband" reviews:
