Michael Sarrazin is a veteran actor but this is the film I remember him from the most (along with "Gumball Rally"! - I can't believe it's not yet on DVD. Customer Rating: Summary: DVD??? Comment: THE REINCARNATION OF PETER PROUD is most deserving of DVD release, so let's hope that it happens soon. It boasts a wonderful Jerry Goldsmith score (which, I believe, has never been issued on LP or CD) and fine performances by Michael Sarrazin, Margot Kidder and Jennifer O'Neill. I remember seeing this in a theatre in its original 1975 release and admiring it even then. The direction by J. Lee Thompson (GUNS OF NAVARONE, MACKENNA'S GOLD and the original CAPE FEAR) is sure, the cinematography by Victor J. Kemper (DOG DAY AFTERNOON, THE CANDIDATE) is gorgeous, and Max Ehrlich's adaption of his own novel is tight and intelligent.
THE REINCARNATION OF PETER PROUD was available on VHS by Lions Gate some years back, so a DVD release is possible. I wonder who controls the rights these days? Customer Rating: Summary: Memorable Classic Comment: I viewed this movie over 25 yrs ago. I never forgot it. It seemed to have a where and when and how was this possible effect. The movie keeps your attention throughout and after it's over you wonder about all the possibilities of how anything like this could ever be and the depth of the imagination of the writer and the director. Now, when I view a 70's movie, I find that many were corny and predictable. Perhaps this is one of the reasons this film sets itself apart. I have not seen anything else during this time in regards to time travel other than the series travel in time and since Somewhere in Time and Well's Time Travel. All of these movies had intriguing appeal...perhaps because there were so few movies that had time travel with depth appeal. Hundreds of war movies have been made, many science fiction thrillers, but not much in time travel. When these movies come out with Good Actors, good directing, and lots of imagination/depth, they leave the viewer wondering all the possibilities of time travel. I'd really like to see this movie come out on DVD. Time travel movies are great to watch over and over again. I love my "Somewhere in Time" movie with Christopher Reeves and Jane Seymour. These movies just keep you thinking about them.
