Customer Rating: Summary: Bravo! Comment: Kudos to Music & Arts for producing these two, never before released recordings of William Kapell. Both the 1951 Rachmaninoff second piano concerto with Leonard Bernstein conducting the NY Philharmonic and the 1944 Khachaturian piano concerto with Eugene Ormandy conducting the Philadelphia Orchestra are a real treat. The 1951 performance of the Rachmaninoff shows Kapell's incredible piano skill, musical maturity and the young Bernstein keeps the tempo tight and focused, unlike his tendency to drag, in later years. Yes, I also love Janis, Richter and Gilels, but Kapell's performances are just electric. In the Khachaturian piano concerto with Ormandy conducting, there is a brevity and warmth in this performance that seems to be somewhat less present in the April, 1946 concert(on RCA) with Koussevitsky conducting the Boston Symphony (though I like them both). In any case, Kapell's Khachaturian piano concerto still gives me goose bumps after all these years. Enjoy!
Customer Rating: Summary: The legend shines with exponential intensity! Comment: Once you have heard anyone of the vibrant, flamed and eloquent performances of this keyboard genius, you will be able to understand why the name of William Kapell has been not only synonymous of the most genuine state of art; but still more Kapell symbolized the overall embodiment about a way of playing and feeling; a visceral creator of atmospheres; a true herald of passionate and fevered commitment around the whole meaning expression and significance of a score.
Try to find a volcanic pianist in the actuality who may play with such steeled intensity and outburst of energy. Kapell always overdid the limits of a good performance, his untiring energies and increasing self enhancement constituted undeniably a personal trademark.
These two legendaries and never released before performances prove by themselves the artistic stature and commitment level we made reference.
You should not miss under no possible pretext, this diamantine opportunity to acquire these invaluable recordings.
And the rest is silence!
