Summary: For serious self-defense
Comment: Other reviewers might joke about use on bears, but let's face it - must purchases of the jumbo size bear mace is for protection from members of our own species. And if that is your goal, this is what you want. Don't mess with those little purse-size binaca spray bottles, bear mace is what you need to keep in your car or home. Buy two cans, one for practice and one to keep. It can be a little tricky to see how the safety comes off, and how the trigger works.

Summary: Bear Defense Spray on two occasions
Comment: I had the chance to use this Bear Defense Spray on two occasions, one was during a promotional radio comedy show. The Bear was tame and I got $50 for Spraying it on a Bear. Didn't seem to work at all, it sneezed a few times but it didn't do a thing. If it hadn't been tame (w/ a trainer), I would have been torn to pieces.
Occasion two was when I went hiking in the mountains. I came across a brown bear near a small creek and he came at me. I froze, reacted calmly, took the Bear Defense Spray and used it. The only thing it did was startle the Bear, it retreated but eventually came at me again, but I had time enough to run back to my truck where I hid for safety.
Bear adrenaline, either from male 'heat' or anger, is enough to override the effects of a little pepper spray burst, just like a man on drugs or alcohol can still attack if hit with pepper spray.
In all, I wouldn't recommend these Bear Defense Sprays at all unless you are dealing with a Bear cub.
AVOID Stephen Graham's fake review, he's a spokesperson for the Guard Alaska Bear Defense Spray.

Comment: Actually have not used the product. In fact, I wonder if there is anyone that has aroused a bears interest, used this product and still has all their fingers and toes? I'm glad I have it just in case. seems easy enough to operate, but like a fire extinguisher, you really should use one once to make sure you know what your doing.

Comment: Well I took this stuff to the zoo and used it on a blackbear. And it didn't do squat. there's no way I'd take this into the woods and expect to survive.
