A mortar and pestle crush and grind herbs, nuts, and spices in a very satisfying, down-to-earth way. Both pieces are made of heavy, durable porcelain that is vitrified and nonporous so as not to absorb odors, stain, or crack. The smooth white glaze covers all but the lower interior of the bowl and the lower third of the pestle, where a textured surface takes over and aids in the grinding process. Contoured for a sure grip, the bowl holds approximately one cup, measures 4-1/2 inches in diameter, and features a pouring lip. The mortar and pestle are dishwasher-safe, and the mortar may be used in the microwave, oven, and freezer if necessary. --Ann Bieri

Comment: Exceptional quality and utility for less than 10.00 Highly recommended. Can't imagine why anyone would need to spend any more. It makes an attractive addition to my counter top as well. It has simplified and streamlined the formerly arduous process of grinding up vitamin pills for Kilian, our beloved cat:)

Comment: Haven't used it yet, but it appears as advertised. It seems well made and looks like it will do exactly what it is intended to do. Plus, it looks nice in the kitchen. I recommend it.

Comment: after purchasing the bia mortar and pestle set, I was subsequently give a marble mortar and pestle. The bia unit is much lighter than the marble unit. pestling is very similiar.

Summary: 8 Ounce Pestle Set
Comment: I must admit that I have not had a chance to employ this set, as yet. My first impression is that the diameter of the working end of the mortar does not seem to be quite big enough to make a perfectt fit for the pestle. Also, the cermics seem a bit flimsy for the workouts I am likely to give it. I will update the review as I have used the product and let you know what my final opinion is. I can not, for now, avoid givining it at least four stars.

Comment: I don't usea mortar and pestle often and when I do, it's usually small projects. So this was the perfect size for me. I love that it goes right in the dishwasher!
