Customer Rating: Summary: Photosmart C7280: Expensive Piece of Garbage...do not buy Comment: Unit worked great as a fax machine...for the first 2 days then stopped auto answering the line. It could see the call, the caller ID and could receive the fax if you told it to manually by pressing the Start Fax button, but with the unit set to autoanswer on 2 rings it simply would not pick up. Customer service (via email) was a joke...they could not even get the model number right using their support form that clearly sets the model number.
Then, in Quickbooks Pro 2008 when printing checks the unit tries to use the photo paper tray regardless of how you set the print job up in HP's print properties dialog.
Bottom line folks...buy anything else but the all-in-one peice of bovine .....
Customer Rating: Summary: Don't Buy This Device Comment: Unfortunately, I'll have to join the crowd that is very displeased with this device.
* It's very slow at printing.
* It's PC software really drags my PC down, primarily after a reboot.
* Tech support is absolutely terrible.
* And, of all things, it won't save scans as PDF files. (Apparently, HP software does not work with the latest version of Adobe (8x or 9x) and therefore can't save PDF files.)
It's definitely a sad excuse for the previously high quality devices HP is known for.
I really wish I could send mine back for a refund. It has been nothing but a disappointment and a bother since I bought it.
Customer Rating: Summary: The worst HP I've ever used Comment: This printer has all the nice functions one would expect in a printer of this type. However, that is all I can say from a positive perspective. Our first unit arrived nearly a year ago. It kept freezing up spontaneously, mid-fax, mid-copy, middle of the night, anytime. After six months, it was becoming unbearable, so after MUCH tech support phone time, HP finally replaced it with a REFURBISHED model. What a mistake! This one, the ink levels don't work at all, the paper jams contantly, the fax outgoing function freezes all the time, I could go on and on. After 11 months, unending hours of tech support, and endless frustrations, I'm on Amazon looking for a better model. Don't buy this printer, you can do better. We also have a 3200 model (no fax), and it is a pleasure. Keep shopping.
Customer Rating: Summary: Nice printer, software is weak Comment: I've had this for several months.
The Good: the printer works great; separate colors for ink cartridges, with a long shelf life and they seem reasonably priced; the wireless setup was easy to follow and works great; photo printing looks very good; I've printed hundreds of text pages on one black ink cartridge, and it's still 50% full; great price for all the features!
The not-so-good/bad: noisy, with obnoxious banging when printing; this printer must be set on a stable surface, as the force of the print head will make a flimsy table bang back and forth; black text printing is actually a little on the blue side; takes a long time to turn on (with much noise and banging) and turn off (with more uncalled for banging and noise); print jobs take a little too long to start printing; the print speed is certainly not a selling feature, but I can live with it (I've sent 200 pg double-sided documents to print and it works fine, though I have to return to reload the paper tray, and the noise will drive most people out of the room when printing a large job)
The Bad: the drivers suck; Every double-sided print job displays a pop-up that requires an acknowledgment that the duplex device is not installed (even though it is) which means I can't queue up multiple print jobs and leave the room while the printer bangs (literally) them out. There are numerous complaints about this on the web, but none of the "fixes" have worked for me; the two-sided printing works o.k., otherwise. I would strongly recommend you NOT use any of the software that comes with this printer. I think it's worth remembering the order of HP's priorities are 1. sell ink, 2. sell printers to sell more ink, 3. write the barest software required to legally claim they offer this software to sell the printer to sell more ink. So, use third-party photo editing and scanning software.
Copy feature is basic, and, even though it has duplex printing, as far as I can tell this printer does not do two-sided copying (wtf?)
Customer Rating: Summary: Nice Printer Comment: This is a nice printer. Prints flawlessly and fairly fast. Only downside is it's a bit noisy. Ink is cheap if you buy a continuous ink system for it.
