Customer Rating: Summary: Awesome invention! Comment: My husband and I were always saying that "someone should invent" a product that does exactly this. Living in Arizona, butter melts if we leave it out in a dish, but the fridge turns it rock-hard and it tears up our toast. The butter keeper keeps a whole stick of butter fresh and cool on the table. Actually, it stays firmer than I expected. It's the perfect consistency to spread on rolls or bread. I change the water in the base every couple days. I thought the butter might slide out of the keeper when the amount left got low, but we haven't had any problems with this. This keeper is attractive too, and fits in with our serving dishes for nice meals.
Customer Rating: Summary: The better butter keeper Comment: This item is great for storing butter that would otherwise melt into the bottom of our big, clunky butter dish. The only difficulty is getting the butter inside of it. To do so you must use room temperature butter. Also please note, it will not work for margarine.
This item is absolutely worth the money spent!
Customer Rating: Summary: Very Sturdy Butter Crock Comment: This is a very well made and simple item with a very simple task that nothing else can accomplish - keep butter soft and accessible for quick use at the table! Hard and cold butter is not spreadable, so for spreadable butter, you put some of your softened butter into this little crock, add some water and just place it on your table. Some little tips:
1. Don't fill up the butter all the way up the rim, just fill it a bit below.
2. Change out the water every few days, making sure that the water doesn't ever completely evaporate out.
3. Make sure that when you fill with butter and as you use the butter, you maintain the butter on the edges so it can create a seal. Don't remove all the better from the edges - try to keep it as even as possible or else the butter can fall out.
The only reason I gave it 4 out of 5 stars because it's a plain white color and I would like to see some other color options. As far as functionality goes - this is a 5 star item. It does exactly what it's supposed to do and is well made. I have no doubt it will last forever as long as it's not hurled and smacked around.
If you're looking for a simple item to keep your butter spreadable and you like the plain white look, then this item is definitely a good buy!
Customer Rating: Summary: Butter Keeper is a keeper! Comment: My husband and I only eat unsalted butter, never margarine. The only disadvantage to butter is that is very difficult to spread out of the refrigerator. The bread looks like it has been through the blender! Once we tried the Pinzon butter keeper, we knew we found the solution. The butter keeper sits on the counter and is always available to spread on bread or toast. I wish it held more butter, but it does the job it was meant to do - spreadable butter!
Customer Rating: Summary: Works Great Comment: The butter keeper is plain white, and should fit with most decor color schemes. It doesn't call attention to itself sitting on the counter, but when you open it up, it automatically becomes a conversation topic.
It does exactly what it's supposed to; keep butter without refrigeration on the counter for up to 30 days. It holds a quarter-cube of butter, and when it's full the butter is just below the rim of the bowl. The only minor mishap was when the butter was not "sealed" in around the edges and the suction of the water when removing the bowl caused the butter to be pulled out of the bowl and into the water. No harm done; we just fished the plug of butter out of the water and placed it back in the bowl.
